AFM E7018-B2L Mild Steel & Low Hydrogen Electrodes
AWS/SFA A5.5

Description: AFM E7018-B2L replaces E8018-B2L under AWS A5.5-81. The strength designations and room-temperature strength requirements after postweld heat treatment have been reduced to reflect the fact that commercial products have been producing marginal tensile strength results in classification tests over many years. The base metals with which this classification is generally used have lower strength requirements than were reflected by the former electrode classification. The lower carbon in the weld metal will improve ductility and lower hardness, but will also reduce the high-temperature strength and creep resistance of the weld metal.

Applications: AFM E7018-B2L is used for welding 1/2% Cr-1/2% Mo, 1% Cr-1/2% Mo, and 1 1/4% Cr-1/2% Mo steels. It is used to weld thin wall A355-P11 Pipe or tube for use in the ˇ°as-weldedˇ± condition and A588 Plate for weathering applications where toughness is not a requirement. Common applications include boiler steam pipes in power plants, oil refining equipment, ships and chemical plants.
